Impressive but wait a second. “PatientSafe raises $20M for iOS-based, mobile health system for hospitals”

The report from GigaOm that PatientSafe has raised a significant round of funding but the devils are always in the details.  In reviewing the company’s website on their solution the following items would be of concern and need to be addressed prior to the implementation.

  • What large EMR vendors have they integrated with for their solution? The article mentions that there app is easier to use the existing EMR vendors solutions.  This may be an issue to grow their solution.
  • It is concerning that they are providing their own hardware solution from a support perspective.  Startups trying to enter the hardware face a challenge that large enterprises may not want to take a leap into new devices.
  • Are there plans to have the application certified by the FDA?  A growing concern with healthcare entities that halts the implementation of software solutions.
  • Finally, while the costs are not mentioned anywhere they could be a potentially a huge road block for implementation.  Some similar solutions charge a per user charge and makes it cost prohibitive to implement.
